NGO Monitor analyzed New Israel Fund (NIF) 2020 financial reports (latest available), detailing grants to 270 Israeli non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
In 2014-2021, the Belgian government allocated approximately €23 million in aid to “NGOs and Civil Society” in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza.
NGO Monitor has analyzed New Israel Fund (NIF) 2019 financial reports, which detail grants to 273 Israeli non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and 60 American NGOs. We focus specifically on the approximately 10% of NIF’s funding that is distributed to 32 political advocacy NGOs claiming to promote human rights in the context of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
During a May 19, 2020 meeting of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi stated that he had instructed the heads of EU delegations to Israel and West Bank/ Gaza to “look deep” in to the allegations that some EU funds go to terror-linked or -supporting NGOs, declaring that such funding “will not be tolerated.”
Germany is one of the largest donors of international development aid in the world, allocating $24.7 billion to bilateral assistance in 2017 alone. However, due to an extreme lack of transparency, overlapping responsibilities for multi-ple government agencies, and the involvement of dozens of different actors, it is difficult to assess the effectiveness of this aid, raising concerns about po-tential abuse of public funds and inefficient management.
NGO Monitor has analyzed the NIF’s 2018 financial reports, which detail grants to 280 Israeli non-governmental organizations (NGOs). We focus specifically on the 20% of the NIF’s funding that is distributed to 31 political advocacy NGOs claiming to promote human rights.
Contracts related to these grants detail activities previously carried out or planned by the NGOs include campaigning for the release of convicted murderers, international and legal attacks against Israel, and promoting incitement that makes the stated objective of “lasting peace” less attainable.
A special report released on December 18, 2018 by the European Court of Auditors (ECA) found a severe transparency deficiency in EU funding to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), confirming concerns raised by NGO Monitor for more than a decade.
