A number of NGOs that receive Australian funding lead campaigns and political activities that are inconsistent with Australian government policies to promote peace and a two-state framework in the Arab-Israeli conflict. These NGOs are centrally involved in anti-Israel BDS campaigns and lawfare.
While claiming to be a “think tank without borders,” Al Shabaka promotes BDS campaigns, a Palestinian “right of return” and features writers on its website who accuse Israel of “apartheid” and “ethnic cleansing,” without featuring alternative views.
Since 1976, Tides has “scaled more than 1400 social ventures, fueled social change in 120+ countries, and mobilized over $3 billion for impact.” A number of these social ventures demonize Israel, promote antisemitic rhetoric, and lead BDS campaigns.
According to an Israeli court verdict, in June 2022, the Be’er Sheva District Court convicted the manager of operations for World Vision in Gaza of the diversion of humanitarian aid to Hamas while employed by the NGO. Other offenses included contact with a foreign agent, membership in a terror organization, illegal use of property for terror purposes, and providing information to the enemy.
Palestine Legal is highly active in BDS campaigns, particularly on college and university campuses throughout the United States.
EuroMed Rights, previously known as Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN), regularly lobbies the EU and UN and disproportionately focuses on Israel and holds it responsible for the continuation of the conflict. Reflecting this one-sided bias, EuroMed Rights members in “Israel/OPT” are all highly politicized NGOs active in the Arab-Israeli conflict.
The European Legal Support Center (ELSC) was jointly founded by the Rights Forum, the Palestinian NGO Network (PNGO), and European jurists as an initiative aimed at “defending individuals and organizations that face false and defamatory accusations of antisemitism and repression because of their support for Palestinian rights and particularly for BDS measures to achieve these rights.”
