NGO Monitor notes with regret that, as we have documented systematically, many of these policy recommendations reflect the advocacy and lobbying efforts of Palestinian political NGOs, including many EU-funded organizations.
Today (October 11, 2018), an Israeli court is considering an appeal from Isabel Phiri, a senior official in the World Council of Churches (WCC) who was denied entry into Israel. NGO Monitor is providing the following essential background on WCC and its “flagship project” Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI), which falls under Phiri’s “overall responsibility.”

In response to the announcement of a planned parliamentary inquiry into foreign funding for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and their campaigns against the IDF, NGO Monitor released the following statement
The Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law Secretariat (Secretariat) – a joint funding mechanism of the governments of Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands – is suspending funding to the Women’s Affairs Technical Committee (WATC), after WATC participated in inaugurating a women’s center in the West Bank named after Dalal Mughrabi, a terrorist who murdered 38 Israeli civilians.
Despite its stated opposition to BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanctions) campaigns against Israel, the European Union (EU) is a major financial backer of organizations that advocate for the country’s economic isolation.
European government funding enables the activities of Israeli NGO Breaking the Silence. These governments must respond to revelations that the NGO apparently collected classified information.
European governments should make their donations to Israeli NGOs transparent, avoiding the need for Israeli legislation requiring such from these groups.
