Silence on Iran, Sanctions for Israel – NGO Responses to the War
In response to Israel’s attacks on Iranian nuclear and military sites, and Iran’s targeting Israeli civilian and population centers, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), including those funded by European governments to promote “human rights” and “international law,” have been selectively silent. Instead of condemning Iran’s clear violations of the laws of war (IHL), these NGOs have intensified highly partisan calls for arms embargoes against Israel. Reflecting their documented anti-Israel obsessions, the NGO advocacy network frames the Israeli strikes as a diversionary tactic to draw attention away from Gaza, and ignored the existential threat of a nuclear Iran.
This is a continuation of the NGO community’s ideological approach to Iran – ignoring genocidal “death to Israel” aims and support for proxy armies, erasing illegal acquisition of materials for nuclear weapons and deployment of ballistic missiles for committing war crimes, and opposing sanctions (see, for instance, earlier statements from Human Rights Watch, FIDH, European Council on Foreign Relations).

- On June 13, AFSC issued a statement condemning “Israel’s unilateral military attack on Iranian sovereign territory…. While the U.S. did not take part in the attack, these actions would not be possible without the billions of dollars in weapons and support provided by the U.S. The U.S. and other international powers must condemn this act of aggression while working for an immediate de-escalation…. Israel made clear that it opposes any such [nuclear nonproliferation] agreement, and this attack creates a serious barrier to an agreement being realized.”
- On June 13, AFSC tweeted, “The U.S. and the international community must make every effort to stop Israel’s violence and expansionist agenda in the region.”
- On June 21, AFSC issued a statement titled, “The U.S. is bombing Iran. We must increase the pressure on Israel and the Trump administration to demand an end to their illegal and immoral attacks…Iran does not have nuclear weapons…On the other hand, Israel has undeclared nuclear weapons, refuses all nuclear weapons inspections, and has not signed on to nuclear weapons treaties. If the U.S wants to stop nuclear proliferation in the Middle East it should push for a regional agreement that includes denuclearization by Israel and the U.S.”

American Muslims for Palestine (AMP)
- On June 13, AMP Executive Director Osama Abuirshaid claimed, “…Israel’s relentless drive to ignite conflicts it cannot contain—is a direct consequence of the brutal, unchecked campaign of genocide it has waged in Gaza for over 19 months. Washington has not merely allowed this atrocity to unfold and enabled it; it is complicit. It is equally clear that Trump, following in Biden’s footsteps, has either lost control of the war criminal Netanyahu or is willfully participating in the crimes perpetrated by Netanyahu and his government.”
- On June 13, AJP Action (AMP affiliate) demanded people call on Congress to “Stop U.S. Complicity in Israel’s Catastrophic Attack on Iran – Demand They Stop The War From Expanding NOW.”

This is not about non-proliferation. This is about expanding empire and hegemony.”
- On June 23, AJP Action issued a statement claiming, “Trump’s reckless actions are risking igniting another war in the Middle East and are threatening to drag the United States into an unnecessary war! A war desired by no one but Israel, and one that benefits no one but Netanyahu. … The solution forward is not to widen wars and conflict, but to adopt a firm American stance that compels Israel to halt its destructive regional policies, end its genocidal assault on Gaza, and stop spreading chaos across the Middle East and the world.”
Amnesty International
- On June 17, Amnesty tweeted, “Both Israeli and Iranian authorities have time and again demonstrated their utter disregard for international human rights law and humanitarian law. As the number of deaths and injuries continue to rise in Iran and Israel, Amnesty International urges both parties to comply with their international obligations and ensure that civilians in both countries do not pay the price of reckless military action.”
- On June 18, Amnesty issued a statement titled, “Urgent need to protect civilians amid unprecedented escalation in hostilities between Israel and Iran.” According to Amnesty, “In the shadow of this latest escalation, Israeli authorities continue to forcibly displace and starve Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip as part of their ongoing genocide. They have imposed a full closure on the West Bank, where state-backed settler violence continues to rise, further entrenching Israel’s illegal occupation and apartheid system.”

Association France Palestine Solidarité (AFPS)
- On June 13, AFPS published a statement claiming, “In violation of all international regulations, Israel assassinated the head of the Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, the Iranian chief of staff, Mohammed Bagheri, and at least six nuclear scientists, targeting their homes in the heart of Tehran…. It is impossible to believe that Israel took the initiative to derail [negotiations] without Washington’s approval…These are criminals who must be stopped by mobilizations and international solidarity…The France Palestine Solidarity Association strongly condemns this new imperialist offensive by Trump/Netanyahu in the Middle East, as it condemns all wars waged by Israel with the support of Western powers against the peoples of the region. This new criminal operation also aims to divert international public attention from the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the ethnic cleansing in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, even as mobilizations to condemn them are growing worldwide, demanding sanctions against Israel, now!”
- On June 23, AFPS published a press release claiming, “After Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen, Trump and Netanyahu, in a deadly agreement, are once again violating international law in the worst possible way. Once again, at the cost of hundreds of lives and massive destruction, they are attempting to impose their vision of world order in the most brutal way possible. By trying to make the world believe that it is a tragic necessity, but a necessity nonetheless. … The imperialist nature of Israeli and US interventions must be clearly condemned.”
- On June 24, AFPS organized a rally in Paris “Against Trump and Netanyahu’s war and against the genocide in Gaza.”
- On June 28, AFPS participated in a rally in Mont-de-Marsan to “Stop US-Israel aggression in the Middle East.”

Avaaz
- On June 19, Avaaz Senior Director Fadi Quran tweeted, “Israel’s approach to war crimes is like its nuclear policy: deny they exist, refuse to discuss them, and fully destroy anyone who tries to emulate them. Denial, deception, then outrage — all in defense of the indefensible. And the US & Europe enable it every step of the way.”
- On June 19, Quran tweeted, “As jets swarm Iran, Israel still spares planes to bomb Gaza. This morning, more children burned alive. More heart wrenching and cruel images than anything out of Tel Aviv or Tehran—yet so normalized, it barely stirs the world.”
- On June 19, Quran tweeted, “The attack on Iran must stop immediately. I am simply saying that one of the consequences of this war is that Israel has managed to distract from the ongoing crimes in Gaza – which are only getting worse as the media looks elsewhere.”
Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC)
- On June 13, AROC reposted a tweet claiming, “The Israeli regime is now attacking Iran, in a blatant act of aggression. The world must unite to isolate and contain the Israeli regime, which, drunk with US-guaranteed impunity, armed to the teeth by the West, and driven by a deeply racist and fundamentally violent ideology, is leaving a blood-soaked trail of genocide, occupation, aggression, and destruction across the region. The Israeli apartheid regime must be stopped before it drags the entire world into darkness.”
Breaking the Silence (Funded by European Union, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, United Nations)
- On June 15, Breaking the Silence posted a thread on Twitter:
- “…In Gaza, there is no Home Front Command application, nor bomb shelters.”
- “We’ve been here before. We know what comes next. Sirens. Rockets. Destruction. Deep fear for our people, friends, and families. And then, almost like clockwork, this fear is used. Weaponized to erase criticism about what’s happening in Gaza and about our bloodthirsty government.”
- “All to throw us all into another bloody cycle of violence with zero diplomatic efforts. We refuse to let that happen. So now, while news panels in Israel are busy dissecting Mossad operations and analyzing Air Force strikes, Gaza, the hostages, and the WB are being pushed away.”
- “Now we’re asking you, wherever you are, to raise your voice and to not let this reality be forgotten: Don’t look away from the hundreds of thousands of displaced Gazans.”
- On June 19, following Iranian strikes against an Israeli hospital, Breaking the Silence tweeted, “Bombing a hospital is wrong and puts innocents at risk. Always. And if it’s ever claimed to be justified, that justification better be solid. MK Miki Zohar and the Israeli government have no credible rationale for the bombing of more than 35 hospitals in Gaza.”
- On June 22, Breaking the Silence tweeted, “It’s still too early to know what the U.S. strike in Iran will mean for the Middle East. But what is certain is that over 200 people were killed in Gaza this weekend.”
- On June 24, Breaking the Silence tweeted, “Today, a ceasefire was announced—and as Iranian missiles kept falling on Israel until the very last second, we were reminded of a soldier’s testimony from Gaza in 2014, titled: ‘Look, we’re going to put on a show.’”
B’Tselem (Funded by Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Spain, Sweden, United Nations)
- On June 14, B’Tselem posted, “Israel’s extremist and unchecked government has opened a new front with Iran as its crimes in Gaza and the West Bank continue….We warn that Israel is likely to exploit the diversion of global attention to escalate its attacks on Palestinians…Instead of exhausting diplomatic avenues, Israel’s extremist government has chosen to start a war that puts Israelis, Palestinians and the entire people of the region in danger…We caution: Israel will exploit the current situation to intensify harm to Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and everywhere under its control.”
Caabu (Council for Arab-British Understanding)
- On June 16, Caabu Director Chris Doyle tweeted, “Whenever western leaders refer to a state in the Middle East having the ‘right to defend itself’, it is always Israel. Yet to hear once Palestine’s right to defend itself, Syria’s (bombed by Israel) or Iran’s. Are Palestinians, Syrians & Iranians less worthy?”
- On June 22, Doyle tweeted, “Netanyahu, a man wanted for war crimes and crimes against humanity, has lured Trump into his illegal reckless war. It is a blatant act of aggreasion (sic).”
- On June 23, Caabu held a panel “examining the implications of Israel’s war on Iran and the continuing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.”
- On June 24, Caabu wrote, “From the outset one thing has been clear – and I have been repeating ad nauseam. The one person who never wanted talks, negotiations or a ceasefire was Netanyahu. He has escalated on every front.”
- On June 24, Caabu tweeted, “Cannot believe I am writing this but on occasions Trump gets it spot on. Not often.” This was in response to a tweet saying that “President Donald Trump called on Israel to stop dropping bombs on Iran, calling it a ‘major violation’ of a fragile ceasefire between the two countries.”
- On June 24, in response to a tweet claiming that “Trump, Netanyahu and Khamenei deserve one another. Humankind deserves a future without them,” Caabu wrote, “Humankind may only have a future without them. (Could I make a case for Putin to join, Danny?)”
- On June 24, in response to a claim that “Most of the underground facilities, including near Natanz, Isfahan and Parchin are still there,” Caabu wrote, “If true, and assuming Trump was told, then it is a realisation they have to negotiate Iran away from a nuclear option.”
- On June 25, Caabu tweeted, “A reminder that Iran’s human rights record is appalling not least in uae of tje (sic) death penalty. Sadly many of those cheerleading for a dangerous reckless war have scant regard for Iranian civilians.”
Churches for Middle East Peace
- On June 13, CMEP published a statement calling for the “withholding of weapons from Israel” – but not from Iran – and “condemn[ing] in the strongest possible terms Israel’s recent attacks on Iran… These reckless and unlawful actions risk the lives of hundreds of millions of people across the Middle East and escalate the threat of a catastrophic regional war. We also call on Iran to cease its counterattacks against Israel…Israel’s ongoing military aggression, in recent days, has resulted in the deaths of dozens of unarmed civilians and the destruction of vast amounts of infrastructure in the occupied West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and now Iran. These actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for human life, international law, and regional stability. These actions are not defensive; they are acts of provocation and destruction.”
- On June 24, CMEP published a statement asserting that “Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, and we urge all parties to uphold this fragile but essential step toward de-escalation.”
CODEPINK (Funded by Tides Foundation)
- On June 14, CODEPINK participated in a rally in New York “against US-Israeli attacks on Iran.” According to CODEPINK, “Israel is attacking Iran using US weapons, manufactured by the same companies providing weapons to repress anti-ICE protests, for genocide against Palestinians, and on show in DC.”
- On June 18, CODEPINK is holding a “EMERGENCY NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION” calling for “No War on Iran.” According to CODEPINK, “The Trump administration has been backing Israel’s attacks on Iran and is on the verge of ordering direct U.S. strikes that would escalate the war catastrophically.”
- On June 17, CODEPINK tweeted, “Senator Rick Scott says pray for Israel’s success against our ‘enemy’ Iran. But we say: Iran is not our enemy. The Iranian people are under attack. Israel bombed first. This war is unprovoked. Israel has nuclear weapons, won’t join the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and refuses inspections but the U.S. still backs its every crime. We pray for diplomacy. We pray for the Iranian people. We pray for Congress to grow a spine. And we pray the American people don’t fall for the lies… again.”
- On June 19, CODEPINK activists confronted Senator Roger Wicker “with a simple message: the American people don’t want another endless war. Iraq was a disaster. Afghanistan, a disaster. Libya, a disaster. There are 90 million people in Iran. Don’t escalate. Don’t justify more violence!”
- On June 21, CODEPINK launched a “No War on Iran Rapid Response Toolkit.” The toolkit provided resources to “outline your demands, suggest first steps for a response plan locally, give you tools to organize an action of your own, and give you talking points and graphics.”
- On June 21, CODEPINK tweeted, “Trump just dragged the U.S. into a war with Iran, no Congress, no UN, no legality. Just bombs, on behalf of Israel. This is Iraq all over again. Illegal. Immoral. Destabilizing. We demand: Stop ALL military intervention in Iran End U.S. support for Israel’s attacks Return to diplomacy, revive the Iran nuclear deal NOW.”
- On June 22, CODEPINK tweeted, “The United States just bombed three of Iran’s nuclear sites. Trump & Netanyahu have been setting the stage with war on Iran for years. We call on every American to resist this war on Iran, and call for diplomacy now.”
- On June 22, CODEPINK tweeted, “The nuclear-armed war organization, NATO, is set to meet this week at the Hague. We joined peace activists from across Europe to protest against NATO, US-Israeli genocide against the Palestinian people, and the US-Israeli strikes on Iran.”
- On June 22, CODEPINK promoted a protest scheduled for June 28 that CODEPINK co-organized “to demand that Trump & Netanyahu stop the war on Iran.”
- On June 23, CODEPINK protested “outside the Washington Post to call out the pro-Israel bias in mainstream media and say NO to another war based on lies. A new poll shows most Americans don’t want military strikes on Iran, imagine the numbers if they called it what it is: Israel’s unprovoked war. We remember Iraq. We remember the lies. We won’t let it happen again.”
- On June 23, CODEPINK tweeted, “You can’t keep bombing a country, assassinating its leaders, flooding the region with weapons, and then act shocked when they respond. This didn’t “just happen.” The U.S. and Israel wanted this. They escalated. They pushed. So here we go again: Another war the U.S. provoked. Another war the people don’t want. Another war for weapons companies and war criminals. We say: NO war with Iran[.] NO more billions for weapons[.] NO more lies.”
- On June 24, CODEPINK “stood outside [Representative] Marjorie Taylor Greene’s office to say: Words aren’t enough! People in Iran don’t want war. They want to live. They want the U.S. to stop funding Israel’s bombs raining down on the region. They want dignity, not devastation.”
- On June 24, in response to reports of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin said, “Let’s hope it’s real … But let’s also stay clear-eyed. And let’s demand a ceasefire where it’s urgently needed: Gaza.”
- On June 24, CODEPINK posted, “THE U.S. DOESN’T GET ‘DRAGGED’ INTO WARS. WAR IS U.S. POLICY.”
- On June 24, Benjamin tweeted, “Netanyahu started bombing Iran to detract from Israeli atrocities in Gaza. Now ALL EYES must now be on Gaza. Stop the killing. Israeli troops out. Stop the starvation. Flood Gaza with aid, not bombs and bullets.”
- On June 24, Benjamin published an article titled, “How the US and Israel Used Rafael Grossi To Hijack the IAEA and Start a War on Iran.”
- On June 26, CODEPINK tweeted, “A ceasefire between Iran and Israel isn’t peace. It’s a ticking time bomb. The U.S. must end its role in fueling endless war in the Middle East. U.S. policy in the region has meant decades of war, hunger, and displacement, from Iraq to Gaza. The U.S. can choose peace. Iranian Americans are in the Senate saying: Pass the War Powers Resolution[.] End weapons to Israel[.] Stop using hunger as a weapon.”
Combatants for Peace (Funded by European Union, Germany)
- On June 15, Combatants for Peace tweeted, “Bombs are falling on Iran & Israel/Palestine & the news cycle has moved on to the next horrific tragedy – but we refuse to look away from Gaza. This is exactly what Netanyahu & his leadership wants.”
Danwatch (Funded by Denmark)
- On June 17, Danwatch issued a statement alleging, “Fighter jets with Danish parts participate in ‘clearly illegal’ attacks on Iran…Israel’s attack on Iran is in violation of international law and therefore also poses legal problems for Denmark’s export of fighter jet parts via the F-35 program.”
Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) (Funded by Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Ford Foundation, Open Society Foundation)
- On June 13, DAWN published a statement alleging, “Israel has committed an unlawful, unprovoked attack on Iran to undermine the growing global efforts to sanction it for its illegal occupation and to disrupt Trump’s efforts to independently pursue America’s interests via diplomacy…The international community should urgently act now to curb Israel’s relentless belligerence with a full arms embargo and coordinated sanctions.”
- On June 17, DAWN published an analysis that claimed, “there is nothing unilateral about Israel’s latest military strike. Nor is U.S. involvement in the Israel-Iran war ambiguous, as it continues to supply Israel with weapons and diplomatic support while actively shooting down Iranian missiles targeting the country…The Israeli government feels a great sense of impunity knowing that the United States has appeased their actions and demands at every turn for decades. From Israel’s genocidal bombing of Gaza to its brutal occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, Syria and Lebanon, Washington actively subverts its laws and its narrow regional national interests to support Israel in their hawkish endeavors. Iran is simply the latest victim of this long-running diplomatic malpractice.”
- On June 17, DAWN Executive Director Sara Leah Whitson tweeted, “While Israel has conveniently distracted us by fomenting a new regional war, the @IDF is still wantonly slaughtering starving Palestinians. How can one little state cause so much chaos and catastrophe to so many hundreds of millions of people in the Middle East?”
- On June 21, DAWN published a statement claiming, “Trump’s unprovoked and unauthorized attacks on Iran not only violate international law but the U.S. Constitution, which grants only Congress the right to declare war…Trump has recklessly launched a war that harms American interests in service of Israeli demands, and broken his promise to the American people to put America first.”
- On June 21, Whitson tweeted, “We are witnessing Israel & its backers engaged in a round of global jujitsu not only to destroy Gaza & and next Iran but to force the US & Europe into supporting them, arming them, fighting for them, and thanking them for the favor! Those who oppose from within the US administration face expulsion or demotion, while those who oppose from the outside face worse.”
- On June 22, Whitson tweeted, “The only offramp right now is if Iran can be persuaded to be sane, reasonable and restrained, take one for team humanity, and not retaliate. If Israel succeeds in provoking a massive retaliation, it will have the final opening to push for a complete regime change operation, which has been its goal all along.”
- On June 23, DAWN’s Advocacy Director, Raed Jarrar, said, “President Trump should resist Israeli efforts to expand this war any further and uphold his promise to keep our country out of new wars. Rather than embarking on another endless, catastrophic, and costly war, the United States should withdraw its troops from the Middle East and immediately stop shipping more weapons to Israel.”
Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor
- On June 15, EMHRM chairman Ramy Abdu tweeted, “Watch how Israeli propaganda is manufactured: after the Iranian missile strikes ended, footage was deliberately filmed to be aired later—staging fear and portraying Israeli civilians as the main targets, to manipulate global opinion.”
- On June 16, Abdu tweeted, “Scene of rescuers in Tel Aviv after the Iranian strike. Reminder: around 10,000 Palestinians remain trapped under Gaza’s rubble….”
- On June 16, in response to a video showing damage to a building from an Iranian missile, EMHRM Chief of Programmes Muhammad Shehada tweeted, “Oh no! A window fell out? Your army bombed my home & the homes of every single member of my family & every single person I know in Gaza while you stood lecturing journalists that if they try to be objective, ‘they’d serve khamas’!”
- On June 17, Shehada tweeted, “If Iran falls, Israel will keep assaulting more countries to establish ‘operational freedom’ (AKA full hegemony) over the entire Middle East where their drones, fighter jets, & bombers would be able to raid any country any time to kill anyone that dares challenge their apartheid & to hell with the notions of sovereignty, international law or the UN! The only thing that matters is the ‘feelings’ of Israeli suprmacists [sic] who will keep claiming that they feel ‘unsafe’ as long as they don’t fully dominate the entire region!”
- On June 19, Shehada tweeted, “It’s unlikely that Soroka hospital itself was targeted (unlike Israel deliberately & surgically bombing hospitals in Gaza). The Iranians were most likely aiming at the IDF bases in close proximity to the hospital.”
European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) (Funded by Belgium, Denmark, European Commission, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom, Open Society Foundation)
- On June 13, ECFR posted a commentary claiming, “Israel initiated and designed this attack to up the ante against Tehran—and drag the wider region into confrontation. Such aggression is a threat to regional peace and security, derailing hopes of a diplomatic pathway to resolve Iran’s nuclear crisis and risking a deep regional war, both of which directly threaten core European interests.”
- On June 19, ECFR published a statement titled, “Enough is enough: Europe needs to oppose Israel’s aggression.” According to ECFR, “Europeans should use their long-standing relationship with Israel to vocally demand it halts the war, while urgently ramping up diplomatic efforts with Arab powers to press Trump to not join the campaign. This means not just withdrawing European political cover and longstanding military assistance but also adopting sanctions on Israel and suspending preferential trade deals, to ensure constructive movement on Iran, as well as wider regional issues where Israel is also pursuing conflict, most urgently in Gaza.”
- On June 19, ECFR issued a statement claiming, “As Europeans focus on Israel’s intensifying conflict with Iran, the country is continuing its expansionist project in the West Bank, jeopardising any remaining chance for a two-state solution.” According to ECFR, “European support for Israel in its war with Iran threatens to overshadow these concerns. The EU may be less willing to impose any measures to hold Israel accountable for its actions in Gaza and the West Bank in light of its unfolding confrontation with Iran. This, however, would be a mistake.”
- On June 23, ECFR published a statement titled, “A call on Europe to help prevent large-scale war between Iran and the United States.” According to ECFR, “European governments [ought] to press the US administration and Iran to adopt a swift exit-strategy before this conflict sparks a wider regional war. Otherwise, as with the 2003 invasion of Iraq, European countries risk being sucked into this military fight, at a heavy cost to our continent’s own interests.”
- On June 26, ECFR posted a commentary claiming, “Israel … appears to be seeking a vision of regional supremacy that deeply unsettles Arab powers. Israel’s seeming endgame—a restructured ‘new Middle East’ anchored by overwhelming military power—leaves little room for Gulf interests and autonomy.”
FIDH (International Federation of Human Rights) (Funded by European Union, Sweden, France, Ireland, Switzerland, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Open Society Foundation)
- On June 18, FIDH issued a statement “strongly condemn[ing] Israel’s aggression and use of armed force against Iran in breach of international law and the United Nations (UN) Charter as well as the targeting of the civilian population in Iran and Israel. Civilians in Iran and Israel are once again bearing the brunt of these attacks. This aggression, emboldened by Israel’s impunity, overshadows Israel’s continued international crimes against Palestinians, including genocide in Gaza and colonial violence in the West Bank.”
Forensic Architecture (Funded by European Union, Sigrid Rausing Trust, Open Society Foundation)
- On June 20, Forensic Architecture tweeted, “Israel’s war on Iran is misusing the humanitarian principle of ‘evacuation orders’ as a tactic of psychological & political terror against the Iranian population – just as it has recently against Palestinian & Lebanese civilians. Three ‘evacuation orders’ have so far been issued in Tehran, home to 10m people.”
Foundation for Middle East Peace (Funded by Tides Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund)
- On June 15, following Israel issuing warnings to civilians to leave Tehran, FMEP President Lara Friedman tweeted, “Reminder: Israel’s approach, normalized in Gaza, is to order an area’s ‘evacuation’, then deem every person staying in the area either a legit military target or a ‘human shield’ for a legit military targets, thereby claiming the right to attack/massacre them at will.”
- On June 20, Friedman tweeted, “With all focus on Iran, erasure & ethnic cleansing advance in the West Bank.”
- On June 23, Friedman tweeted, “‘Breaking’ news of previously unreported Iranian govt evil deeds —helpfully bolstering narrative that even if US/Israeli bombings violated law & even if Iran was not about to get nukes, the war against Iran is justified & good for everyone — starting, in 3.. 2… 1…”
Gisha (Funded by Ireland, Finland, Switzerland, European Union, Norway)
- On June 17, Gisha tweeted, “While all eyes are on Israel/Iran, millions of Palestinians in Gaza continue to be subjected to Israel’s widespread attacks, mass displacement & policy of starvation. The war with Iran is no excuse for Israel to deny its obligations to Gaza residents, which it has done for 20 long months and prior to the current crisis. Civilians, wherever they are, in Gaza, Israel, and Iran, must be protected.”
Human Rights Watch
- On June 20, HRW EU Director Claudio Francavilla claimed, “EU foreign ministers shouldn’t let the escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran take focus away from the ongoing extermination and apartheid against the Palestinians; they should suspend the trade pillar of the EU-Israel Association Agreement without further delay.”
IfNotNow (Funded by Tides Foundation, Ford Foundation, Foundation for Middle East Peace)
- On June 13, IfNotNow tweeted, “The Israeli military’s reckless attack on Iran needlessly puts the region on the brink of all-out war….Netanyahu is putting the entire region in danger to distract from his ongoing destruction of Gaza and the political crisis he faces in his governing coalition. - “This is what happens when the US gives unlimited weapons and funding to the Israeli government. The Israeli government is emboldened to escalate its genocidal campaign in Gaza, and its criminal aggression across the entire region with total impunity.”
- “Safety for all – those living under threat of missiles, those being starved and displaced, those facing tanks and bullets at aid distribution sites – will only come once the US stops writing a blank check for the Israeli military, no matter what war crimes they commit. We demand the US stop arming Israel NOW.”

- “‘Israel remains the main destabilizing force in the Middle East. Just in the last 20 months it has attacked and occupied new swathes of territory in Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank, and is carrying out a genocide in Gaza. It has bombed Iraq and Yemen. And now it is raising the level of instability to a qualitatively new level, directly confronting the other most powerful military and political force in the region.’” [Quote from Phyllis Bennis and Khury Petersen-Smith]

Masar Badil
- On June 13, Masar Badil published a statement condemning “the treacherous Zionist-American aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, viewing it as a new episode in the ongoing series of Zionist crimes backed by the United States, which target the peoples and forces of Arab and Islamic resistance in the region.”
- On June 13, member of the Executive Committee Khaled Barakat claimed, “The United States and ‘Israel’ are responsible for launching an aggressive war against Iran that will become a long, protracted war, with serious consequences for the aggressor…The Zionists must prepare themselves for the kind of war that they have never experienced before. They must give up the idea that they can commit genocide and attack countries throughout the region while living in their comfort zone, and that Palestinians, Lebanese and Yemenis will be subjected to massacres while they enjoy the shores of Palestine with no consequences. That era is over…Zionists should leave Palestine immediately and find other places to live their lives.”
- On June 18, Masar Badil met with the Iranian Ambassador to Spain to “express[] its deep solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran—its people, leadership, and armed forces—in confronting the Zionist-U.S. aggression and the crimes of destruction and assassination targeting Iran and the entire region.” At the meeting, Jaldia Abubakra, a member of Masar Badil’s Executive Committee, claimed, “This latest episode of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran—like those before it—will fail. All attempts by imperialist and Zionist powers to destroy Iran or prevent it from advancing and supporting Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, and the resistance movements in our homelands have failed, and they will fail again.”
- On June 18, Masar Badil “called on supporters of Palestine and the resistance camp in the region and the world to mobilize urgent and broad popular actions and demonstrations, and escalate political and media confrontations, against the US-Zionist aggression against Iran.”
- On June 23, Masar Badil published a statement claiming, “In light of the ongoing U.S. aggression against our peoples—most recently, the treacherous bombing of the Islamic Republic of Iran—the Masar Badil, the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement reaffirms its firm position: all American and Western military bases must be expelled from our Arab region. Their presence constitutes a form of direct colonialism and remains a constant source of aggression, plunder, and terrorism.” According to Masar Badil, “We call upon the masses of our Arab people everywhere, upon the forces of liberation and revolutionary change in the Arab homeland, and upon international liberation movements, to launch a broad popular campaign against the American military presence in West Asia. The expulsion of U.S. military bases must be seen as an urgent national and revolutionary objective, no less vital than the struggle against the Zionist project in occupied Palestine.”
- On June 26, Masar Badil met with the Iranian Ambassador to Belgium as part of a “Delegation of Organizations Supporting Palestine and the Resistance.” According to Masal Badil, “During the meeting, Comrade Mohammed Khatib, a member of the Executive Committee of the Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement [Masar Badil] and coordinator of the Samidoun Network in Europe, conveyed the delegation’s greetings and congratulations to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its steadfastness and victories in the face of aggression. He emphasized the importance of Iran’s role in supporting the Palestinian and Arab resistance forces—particularly the resistance in the Gaza Strip—amid the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Zionist enemy. The delegation also expressed its full solidarity with the Iranian people and their revolutionary leadership, and firmly rejected any American or Zionist aggression targeting Iran or any of the forces of the Axis of Resistance.”
Nonviolence International (Funded by Rockefeller Brothers Fund)
- On June 14, Nonviolence International posted on Facebook, “On June 12, an Israeli military strike hit Iranian soil. Meanwhile, in Gaza, the deliberate cutting of electricity pushes civilians deeper into a humanitarian crisis. We must speak clearly: The future of this region cannot be shaped by retaliation, siege, or silence. Real peace demands global accountability, not just for today’s actions, but for long-term nuclear responsibility….”
- On June 20, Nonviolence International issued a statement claiming, “With all the attention on Iran and Israel and the real fears of devastating wars, the situation in Palestine deteriorates with forced marches, humiliation, bombings, and deliberate starvation…We cannot let the War on Iran be a distraction by Prime Minister Netanyahu from the situation in Gaza and from having him face the really serious questions that are threatening his coalition and his own hold on power.” According to Nonviolence International, “Israel is a dominant military power and does not need nor deserve US military support to protect it from its enemies. Every US President, for all their unquestioning support of Israel, has resisted constant Israeli pleas for the U S to attack Iran. It is certainly not in America’s interest to do so. Joining the fight against Iran only benefits Israel at the expense of American interests.”
Palestine Solidarity Campaign
- On June 13, PSC published a statement claiming, “20 months into its genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip…Emboldened by the total impunity afforded to it by western governments, Israel has, once again, brought the entire region to the brink of war….There is every indication that Israel will use these attacks and any Iranian response to bolster the support it receives from Western states, allowing it to escalate its genocide without consequences. …The current situation is built on the foundations of 75 years of colonisation, ethnic cleansing and imposition of a system of apartheid against the Palestinian people. A just peace in the Middle East can only be achieved by ending Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip, dismantling Israel’s settler-colonial, apartheid regime, and when Palestinians achieve freedom, justice and return.”
- On June 14, PSC participated in a protest “demanding our government stop arming Israel and pressure it to stop bombing Iran and end is genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.”

- “Following Israel’s illegal attack, the war escalated to direct and open military confrontation between Israel, backed by the entire West, and Iran. However, Israeli-U.S. aggression on Iran did not begin on June 13, 2025.”
- “The US, Israel and Europe have waged this existential war against Iran because Iran has rejected American and Zionist interests in the region, instead safeguarding national and regional sovereignty, and building power that challenges Western imperialism’s sphere of dominance.”
- “While comprador Arab regimes are rewarded by imperialists for their loyalty to the U.S. and Zionist project, Iran faces sanctions and attacks for refusing to accept Israel and America’s presence in the region, and for their unwavering support for the Palestinian people.”
- “And while the political class and the media establishment attempt to obscure narratives and obfuscate facts, the people know who the real aggressor is. It is Israel. It is the U.S. It is Zionism and imperialism.”
- “The escalations against Iran are part of the same calculations that led to the genocide on Gaza: calculations made to secure complete Zionist and Western domination over the Middle East, and to prevent sovereignty and liberation from the grip of colonialism and imperialism.”
- “We condemn any involvement by Western powers in support of Israel’s war of aggression. After more than 600 days of genocide on Gaza, Israel’s attack on Iran should only lead to sanctions, arms embargoes, and the complete isolation of Israel globally.”

But the people of the United States reject this war!”
PAX (Funded by the Netherlands and Open Society Institute)
- On June 13, PAX posted on Facebook, “Israel attacked Iran tonight…. This is happening as the genocide in Gaza continues unabated….The Israeli attack fits a pattern. After more than one and a half years of limitless violence in Gaza and regular attacks on Lebanon, Syria and Yemen, the attack is now being opened on Iran. One escalation follows another. It shows the importance that the violence in Gaza must also be stopped. It is important that the international community, including the Netherlands, condemns Israel for this illegal military action.”
- On June 19, PAX published a statement claiming, “When a country commits aggression, as Israel is now doing against Iran (and previously against other countries in the region), it should be condemned. The Netherlands (and the EU) does not, despite our constitutional mandate to promote the international rule of law. Above all, the government expresses understanding for Israel’s actions. It does, however, ‘regret’ that Israel ‘felt compelled’ to attack. The Dutch stance will be perceived in Israel mainly as support…The Israeli attack thus not only violates international law, but is also an attack on diplomacy…International law gains credibility when it is universally applied, which is why Israel should be called upon to join the NPT [Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons] and renounce nuclear weapons. In addition, at least a full arms embargo against Israel is necessary. It is unacceptable that the Netherlands continues to supply parts for the F-35 fighter plane to Israel via the US, despite a court ruling. This plane is deployed against Iran, as well as in Gaza.”
- On June 21, PAX published a statement claiming, “The situation becomes even more troubling when EU states offer support – or even quiet understanding – for Israeli aggression beyond Gaza, including the recent illegal strikes on Iran. These are not isolated incidents. They follow a pattern of previous attacks on Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria. … There was no imminent threat.”
- On June 23, PAX published a report in which they “spoke with partners from Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and Israel to hear how the conflict is affecting their lives and to hear their perspectives on a situation with wide-reaching regional consequences.” The two Israeli “perspectives” were one sentence each, reporting to be “in Tel Aviv, near a good shelter” as well as “all okay and safe.” These accounts are juxtaposed with the paragraph-long reports of individuals elsewhere, each expressing fear and hardship.
Rights Forum (Funded by Rockefeller Brothers Fund)
- On June 16, the Rights Forum published an report titled, “While the world watches Iran, Israel’s genocide in Gaza continues unabated.” According to the Rights Forum, “Israel’s war on Iran dominates world news, but Israel’s campaign of extermination of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank continues unabated.”

- On June 24, the Rights Forum published a statement titled, “Israel’s aid plan is ‘designed to kill’.” According to the Rights Forum, “Trump is beating himself up over the ceasefire between Iran and Israel. EU leaders think it’s too early for sanctions. And Israel is killing fifty Palestinians in Gaza in one morning. The unimaginably horrific has become so normal that it doesn’t make the front page anymore.”
Sadaka Ireland
- On June 14, Sadaka tweeted at EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, “Actually it’s Iran that has the right to defend itself as it was attacked. Your defence of Israel is criminal and a betrayal of your responsibilities.”
- On June 14, Sadaka tweeted, “The French, Germans, Brits and Canadians always emphasize ‘Israel has a right to defend itself’ even when it is in grave breach of international law and isn’t ‘defending itself’ but starting wars to deflect attention from its genocide in Gaza.”
- On June 16, Sadaka tweeted, “Israel targets civilians. With impunity.”
Samidoun
- On June 13, Samidoun published a statement, claiming that it “condemns in the strongest terms the Zionist aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran… and affirms Iran’s complete and legitimate right to defend itself and to respond by all means. This is not only an attack by the Zionist entity alone, but clearly coordinated with, armed, funded and directly cheered on by the United States and its fellow imperialist powers. The moment requires clear and explicit solidarity and action to confront the Zionist-imperialist war machine.”
- On June 26, Samidoun met with the Iranian Ambassador to Belgium as part of a “Delegation of Organizations Supporting Palestine and the Resistance.” According to Samidoun, “During the meeting, Comrade Mohammed Khatib, a member of the Executive Committee of the Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement and coordinator of the Samidoun Network in Europe, conveyed the delegation’s greetings and congratulations to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its steadfastness and victories in the face of aggression. He emphasized the importance of Iran’s role in supporting the Palestinian and Arab resistance forces—particularly the resistance in the Gaza Strip—amid the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Zionist enemy. Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP)
- On June 14, SJP posted on Instagram, “National SJP condemns the Zionist, US-backed attacks on Iran. - On June 22, SJP Norcal held a protest in San Francisco calling to “Stop the War on Iran. Trump is a War Criminal.”
- On June 22, SJP wrote, “The United States has officially sent unprovoked strikes on three locations in Iran, continuing its forever war on the people of the Middle East, from Palestine, to Syria, to Lebanon, to Libya, to Iraq, to Yemen, to Iran. From direct interference to disastrous sanctions and outright war crimes, the U.S. has stopped at nothing in its attempt to eradicate resistance to its attempts at imperial expansion in the region. The colonizers’ playbook never changes, the language only slightly shifts, and we must learn to recognize the manufacturing of consent for imperialist war when we see it. Just as we have mobilized for Gaza for the past two years, we as students must now mobilize to force an end to the U.S. and Zionist entity’s war of aggression on Iran. From Gaza to Tehran, the empire will be forced to retreat.”
Students for Palestine’s Honour and Resistance (SPHR)
- On June 19, the Concordia, McGill, and Dawson chapters of SPHR posted, “We see this attack for what it is: a brazen attempt to escalate violence and undermine sovereignty in the region. From the Zionist occupation’s full blockade of the West Bank and starvation and genocide in Gaza, to US claims of nuclear weapons, to Carney’s failure to condemn the aggression, we stand against this coordinated imperialist attack on our region.”
The Maple
- On June 24, The Maple published an op-ed by Davide Mastracci titled, “Canadians Should Stand With Iran Against The U.S. And Israel.” According to Mastracci, “The Israelis and Americans pose a far greater threat to world peace and justice than Iran has or ever could.”
United Church of Canada
- On June 16, UCC posted, “The United Church of Canada joins the World Council of Churches in condemning Israel’s attack on Iran and its deliberate escalation of violence in the region…With increasing hostilities in the region, the international community including Canada must respond immediately to sanction Israel for its actions and to prevent any further militarized responses, including from allies of Israel and Iran.”
- On June 23, UCC published a statement claiming, “When the situation calls for diplomacy, the U.S. attacks on Iran display a shocking sense of impunity and recklessness that can only worsen the already highly inflamed tensions in the region and increase global insecurity. The United Church of Canada condemns the United States’ attack on Iran, outraged at the provocation, which furthers the violence, death and destruction in the region. Canada must immediately and unequivocally condemn the Trump Administration’s attack on Iran.”
Yesh Din (Funded by Norway, European Union, Switzerland, Ireland, Spain, United Nations)
- On June 16, Yesh Din tweeted, “During the war with Iran, complete military closure in the West Bank and settler violence…. - On June 16, Yesh Din Legal Counsel Michael Sfard tweeted, “Forgive me if my greatest fear about the war with Iran is that the little international and domestic opposition there was to the ethnic cleansing and mass killing in Gaza will dissipate. We must not turn our eyes away from Gaza.”
World Council of Churches (WCC) (Funded by Norway, Switzerland, Germany, European Commission)
- On June 13, WCC issued a statement that “strongly condemns the Israeli military attack on Iranian territory—an unlawful act that violates international law and the sovereignty of a nation-state. Such aggression endangers the entire Middle East region, reignites cycles of violence, and risks triggering a catastrophic war with global implications. It challenges all efforts made through diplomacy and dialogue, and gravely undermines the pursuit of peace, justice, and human dignity. We reject all forms of violence and escalation, including deliberate attempts to set the region ablaze for political gain.”
Zochrot
- On June 20, Zochrot published a statement claiming, “This war on Iran did not begin in a vacuum. It emerged just as international pressure was mounting on Israel to comply with international law, to implement the ICJ’s provisional measures, and to face accountability at the ICC for its genocidal war on Gaza. When the pressure rose—so did the distraction. The war was unnecessary. It was strategic. It was designed to shift the world’s gaze. To bury the reality in Gaza under headlines, fear, and false urgency. To rehabilitate Israel’s image, regain Western support, and suppress the rising calls for justice. But we will not look away…This new war is not about defending Israel. It is about defending Zionism. It is about deflecting accountability. It is about maintaining impunity. We reject it.”
