On February 1, 2022, the highly politicized and terror-linked PNGO hosted an EU-funded conference, titled ”Shrinking Civic Space for Palestinian Civil Society Organizations: Local and International Policies.” The conference was attended by Head of the EU Delegation to the West Bank and Gaza Strip Sven Kühn Von Burgsdoff
On August 1, 2022, NGO Monitor was a signatory on a joint letter to the UNHRC President calling for the removal of the Commissioners due to their antisemitic biases
On July 25, 2022, NGO Monitor sent letters to the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Sweden, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Ireland, which had issued a joint statement rejecting Israel's designation of six Palestinian NGOs as terror organizations.
The 50th Session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), held in June 2022, perpetuated the bias and hypocrisy that has come to define the UNHRC specifically and the United Nations in general. Several statements made during the session by NGO officials, many of which receive large portions of their funding from European governments, promoted the apartheid canard and advocated for BDS.
On June 15, 2022, Mohammad el-Halabi was convicted in the Beersheva District Court of diverting funds and materials to Hamas for terror purposes. At the time of his arrest in 2016, El-Halabi was the head of World Vision.
On May 24, 2022, CNN published an article alleging that evidence suggests that Shireen Abu Akleh was killed in targeted attack by Israeli forces. This inflammatory charge, which was vehemently denied by the IDF, relies heavily on claims made by Chris Cobb-Smith who has joined with the most politicized anti-Israel NGOs in pushing false or unsubstantiated accusations of Israeli violations of the laws of war.
NGO Monitor sent a letter to the EU over the scheduled participation of the Head of the EU Delegation to the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Sven Kühn von Burgsdoff, in an event co-organized by Al-Haq.
On May 11, 2022, Al-Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh was killed during clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinian gunmen in the West Bank. Predictably, the same chorus of NGOs that claim any Israeli use of force is a war crime, immediately accused Israel of killing the journalist, amplifying the PA’s position that the incident demanded an ICC investigation, while calling for more BDS measures.
Switzerland is also funding an Israeli NGO that is justified through the façade of “peacebuilding” and “human rights.” However, the contact between the government and Akevot, obtained by NGO Monitor, specifically focuses on “myth-breaking” and dismantling the founding narratives of Israel.
On April 29, Human Rights Watch announced the appointment of longtime anti-Israel campaigner Sari Bashi to the position of program director, where she will be responsible for HRW’s research and investigations.
