Promotion of BDS by UCC, KAIROS Canada, and Wi’am is inconsistent with Canadian policy.
Canada has consistently denounced boycott, divestment, and sanctions campaigns against Israel, making funding for the Palestinian group Wi’am completely incompatible with Canadian policy.
Founded in 2002, Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI) is the Geneva-based World Council of Churches’ (WCC) “flagship project” on the Arab-Israeli conflict. Despite marketing itself as a human rights and protection program, EAPPI places significant emphasis on political advocacy before, during, and after the trip.
Given the presence of self-interested actors, such as terror groups posing as human rights NGOs or groups promoting particularistic and not universal values, it is crucial that governments remain vigilant and ensure that aid is used to improve the lives of those for whom it’s intended, writes Becca Wertman.
As in previous years, many politicized NGOs and charities are exploiting the Christmas season to promote anti-peace campaigns.
U.S. funding continues to go to NGOs active in anti-Israel and BDS campaigns that directly contradict U.S. government support for peace in the region.
