October 7, 2024 marked the one-year anniversary of the worst attack against the Jewish people since the Holocaust. However, in sharp contrast, NGOs inverted the atrocities committed against Israelis, and continuing the demonization campaign that falsely portrays Israel’s military response to the attacks as “genocide,” “ethnic cleansing,” and “extermination.”
In the aftermath of the barbaric Hamas massacre of October 7 and attacks by Iran and its terror proxies on Israel, the NGO network initiated lawsuits and called on governments around the world to impose a full arms and fuel embargo on Israel and halt military assistance.
FIDH’s Palestinian NGO members – Al-Haq (represented on FIDH’s international board), Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), and Al Mezan – clearly are closely linked to the PFLP terror group, and promoted the genocide canard from the first days of the war.
Importantly, as part of the NGO Durban Declaration and accompanying BDS campaigns, advocacy organizations have sought to turn the ICC into a court of universal jurisdiction. Like their exploitation of the UN and other international frameworks, these NGOs seek to use the ICC for demonization and to brand Israeli officials as “war criminals.”
NGOs funded through German development programs (Entwicklungshilfe) with the stated aim to promote “human rights” and “international law” have failed to condemn these blatant violations of human rights and humanitarian principles.
On December 12, 2023, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) announced a resolution headlined, “Israel’s unfolding crime of genocide and other crimes in Gaza and against the Palestinian People.”
On October 7, 2023 (which was the Sabbath and a Jewish holiday), hundreds of Palestinian terrorists poured across the border from Gaza into Israel, slaughtering hundreds of Jews, and torturing, maiming, and kidnapping others. In parallel, thousands of rockets were fired at Israeli population centers, sending millions rushing to shelters.
On June 30, 2020, the European Commission updated its Financial Transparency System (FTS) with details about grants to NGOs authorized in 2019.
